The Parents Meeting at Nahawi language immersion school last night opened up with the first semi-public screening of “Language Matters! Wales Sampler Reel.” David Grubin and I fielded a million questions from parents who had thought they were alone and in a minority (2% of Hawaiians speak Hawaiian, up from .2% thirty years ago) who now saw a model and ally in the ancient Celtic language of Cymraeg (Welsh, in Welsh). It was an honor and privilege. as they say, and how hungry are humans to live their own identities, not willing to endure the Pringle-ization of Global Homogenizing Capitalism. Thanks to Kauanoe Kamanā and Larry Kimura, all faculty, staff, parents, students. Mahalo nui.
