Please help keep Bowery Poetry Club alive, and make a donation if you can. Anything helps! You won’t be charged unless we meet our goal pledge! Please share!
Happen to be around for the London Endangered Language Week? Join me for an evening of poetry! May 9, 6pm at Russell Square: College Buildings, Room: Khalili Lecture Theatre! Then on May 10 I’ll be showing “On The Road with Bob Holman”.
Guess who’s the host for Hollywood Does Poetry Benefit for the Bowery Poetry Club? That’d be Sarah Kay, a true international phenomenon with her poem “If I Should Have a Daughter”. Sarah’s in her early 20s, grew up at the Urbana Poetry Slam… at the BPC, and her appearance on TED is one of the most inspiring poetry readings I have ever seen. Patricia Clarkson and Hugh Dancy and Sapphire will represent Hollywood at the club on May 20th
New Definition of AWESOME: When you’re in Copenhagen/London for gigs and movie meetings (Endangered Languages, w/ Final Cut Productions) and my BEES swarm! so Bowery neighbors EJ and Ken coordinate with NYC Backwards Beekeepers (thanks Tim, Eamon!) to save the swarm, pollinate the Earth, and bring honey to the masses. Thanks to All — AWESOME!
I’m a poet, I guess, because the tempo of a poem fits into my life. If I had a different kind of discipline, I’m sure I would write infinitely long novels. Poems ride along on the tip of your eyelash and can come and go in a blink. It’s important that you be there when they want to happen. And the way to be there is to give yourself time to percolate; you can read, you can walk, you can sit there and dream.
Hey! I’m reading and showing films in the London Endangered Language Week next week in case you happen to be around… Spread the word!!
